Hello all,

One of my weaker points is color so I've decided to study other artists palettes and create my works using them.

This time it's big brother and the 8 color palette he used for Cat and Mouse. Real nice palette and it was a pleasure to use.

As for the subject, it's my dog O'Brien.

Here is a picture of him sitting at a laptop once: O'Brien MacBook

And thanks Big Brother for the awesome palette.

EDIT: Updated the red to a more muted brown, let me know what you think.

Don't know if this is what you mean.

The tablet edges are parallel, it doesn't have a vanishing point. The keyboard has one, the chair might have one too but not the same. All these lines in actual 3D space being supposedly parallel, should converge towards a single vanishing point in the drawing, or remain parallel (as in iso or oblique). Of course you can tweak it a little to suit your needs.

The dog looks more in line with the chair (imagine the line joining its eyes), which is why I thought a lower angle of view on the desk would be better.

Manupix: Andarias taught me once how to use lines overlay on your piece to get perspective perfect but it's been so long since i've done that. Maybe you can help?

I plan to fix all of the issues you've pointed out in a larger version later on.

Thanks for all the comments :)

Dog is fantastic. Is he actually typing with 3 (or 4) paws? =D

There's a perspective inconsistency between tablet, keyboard and chair; a flatter desktop angle of view might have made it easier.

The keyboard is probably a bit noisy too.

So small and detailed ,since you didnt created your own pallete so no credit for that  but you used it really nicely.

Lovely.

Changed the title to "The Artist's Dog" Since it makes more sense in my head.

Brown looks much smoother now! Good edit.

Updated the orange to be more brown, let me know what you think.

Orange stands out slightly, but still adorable :D

what WE ALL call the "pixel art position"

user
dogmeat (Level 1 Gangster) @ 4/12/2010 15:03

It's also to be noted that he is assuming what I like to call the "pixel art" position :)

Haha, just brilliant. I love a few things in this, the use of colour, even though the the use of orange stands out  a bit to me, but thats not huge of a deal anyway and subtle things like the mouse hole which I can make out some sort of mouse in there? and then the emotion of the dog, you can see he's been staring at the PC for a bit to long.

Brilliant.

Good work! I like the emotion the dog exudes, loneliness and stress! If he keeps it up, he'll get wrinkles! The palette itself breaks down with the orange spots, since it was originally intended for smaller accents. You could customize it for the piece, maybe modify a shade to act as a transition between the orange and another color.
