I'm not cricitizing the way you pixeled it, I'm saying don't submit a piece until it's finished. Only drawing half the image doesn't cut it here, once you add the top half it will likely get accepted into the gallery.

lol the thing is this has no shading in the pic hes using. and its ont those 3 colors.

I think this needs a major graphical overhaul. There's no shadowing, I think the colors were a wrong choice, and it would be much better with a background. But it's a start.
Here is some more advice. You say that there is not supposed to be shading, however originality goes a lot farther than accuracy, and adding shading would be great. But if you're going to copy, your freind is right, you should get a reference pict to work from, and try and get it as close as possible to the original pic. And even though there are only three colors in the original pic, adding a few more would help you antialias which would smooth out the lines, and as an early piece, this would be a great antialiasing practice.
