Hmm. I'm not sure how I feel about this.
On the one hand, it's good artwork. The lines are great, and the dynamic pose, coupled with the great perspective really makes me like this piece.
As a piece of pixel art, I feel that it leaves a bit to be desired though. I think it could deserve a second pass, to give a lot more detail to the rather barren areas. Where you have some flat shapes (on the flames, for example) it would look great to have some detailing and variation. Antialising would also be a boon.
I guess everyone else has already said this stuff. It's great from a jumping off point, but I'd love to see you go back and fix it up. In the mean time, I'm still pretty impressed.
The transparecencies were just because I worked on things separately, so when pasting things over other things I tried to reduce opacity to give a better feeling, don´t think it strays from pixelart though.
But yeah, was exactly thinking about the clouds last night when replying to other ppl and considering a heavy edit on this one :)
Thanks for the comment and crit!
I have a problem with the transparencies, however it does seem that the rules have been much more felxible lately, so its no biggie I guess. The other part that bugs me is the cloud texture, although I do understand that this was for a contest with a deadline. But now that it's long gone I'd work on this piece again.
May edit soon then, maybe some micro revision shall make it better.
Well it was definitive given the purpose it served (the pixel contest thingy :P) but since people seem interested in it and I agree that it has potential to be way better I will retool this piece whenever I have break from my current works, thanks!
alright i understand, but i think you should upload also one with aa etc, would love to see it ^^
i like this as a drawing, but its not impressive as pixel art. :\
To me it's still a rough, an interesting rough by the way, but there is still issues you could fix. A lot of. I don't consider this piece as definitive work.
wow!
I'm not totally convinced by the jagged shape of some elements, but this is indeed a real nice composition with a great character in a very interesting posture...
More like an actual drawing than pixel art per se, but I like it.
Maybe add in a little more micro-adjustmens (AA, textures...)
Cogratulations anyway. The canvas size is very challenging.
Yep, but I was on a set date contest so I didn´t have much time to manually antialise and filters of course were not allowed :P But making colored outlines could do the trick too.
Thanks
i would have antialiazed the whole piece, would look MUCH better imo.
Thanks! And yeah I will take the comment on the leg shading in mind, think it is a bit odd too :)
Wow! I expected to see somewhat smaller, is amazing. The shading of the leg skin looks a bit odd, you could improve it.
thanks! And funny you say that since my wife and I have been playing Snatcher for sega CD lately (but this piece is actually old :P). Either way, thanks for the compliment1
This reminds me of some old Sega CD games... Only with better colours! Great work!
Thanks for the comment and the pointers. Yep. this was kinda rushed for the contest and aside from what you comented there are other flaws, mainly in perspective and proportions, but yeah the shading is a bit weird on legs, thanks!
I love the perspective, but there are a few things bothering me on this. The flames coming from the boots look odd, I think they're shaped/shaded too unnaturally. Not like green laser flame coming from robot shoes is natural. The shading on the legs is what really bothers me. The shine is too long I think.
wow this is great :) amazing size haha nicely done
Looks like a mix of Eureka 7 and Gundam. It could use some anti-aliasing though. Aside from that, good job
