Wow, very good for a first!
Now since you ask, let's see...
Tiles are really good, walls could use some thickness though, floor tiles have too much white highlights (speculars can't go all around like this, kills the volume feel), and the whole bg might look better darker.
Circle of laser (?) light around the guy doesn't look like a circle of light, it would with a darker bg;
The guy's anatomy and pose are off; I can't help with those but I suggest seeking help on the WIP forums, here and at Pixellation.
The dithered shadow is horrible! It's also totally inconsistent with both light on the guy and light on the tiles (both soft, although one is directionnal and not the other).
Finally, shouldn't it be Cdr ?
For one of your first time pixels, this is really good.
The person doesnt seem to fit with the rest of the picture, also his stance looks kinda akward. Maybe you can try adding more of an outline around him to give him some more contrast.
I like this alot. It reminds me more of Crusader No Remorse/Regret than X-Com.
As the others have said, his posture is a little funny. It looks like he's kinking his neck to the side and looking down. There's probably only a pixel or two in it but it does make a slight difference.
Still, way better than what I can do and gets me very nostalgic for old games :)
