Love the designs, the sensual girl. the door and the pose of the sorcerer, fav.
Yeah, that was the intention. The characters could have subtle breathing idle animations (so you know what's alive at a glance), but would be static otherwise. Attacks and spells would be effect animations overlayed on top of the sprites. Basically, it would reduce the art creation to the fun stuff, no tedious transition tiles, etc.
Actually, in some ways, this is an absolutely brilliant idea.
That is, making a deliberately "static graphics" nethack style game, that is, with (nearly) no animations, and with no tile transitions, but large, high-res tile/monster icons. I haven't ever seen one done that had really good "high res" pixel art. I've seen a few with rather bleh 3d renderings, but never with pixels.
I actually like the absence of perspective or depth in this piece. Apart form the retro sentiment, it enables you to have a single tile for the walls
I updated the description with a little more info. If I get a chance, I may upload the sketches I drew on paper for the sprites.
@Jim16: Avo is correct, this is for a Nethack style reskin.
Thanks for the kind words!
Not really sure what kind of game this is, but is looks really cool.
Care to explain how the game would work?
Looks like something like nethack but with very cool tiles. Nice sprites and everything!
This piece definatly has a sweet style- especially the door and the hero(?) with the dagger-
I think the walls could use a little more polishing, though I'm not sure how many tiles you wanted to limit it to.
Awesome! You should draw more of these.
