Thank you epoxy, I'm real happy to get some replies on this work, especially all the constructive feedback you've given me. I agree with you, the tentacles could benefit greatly if I didn't take a simple 2 frame shortcut. Blinking too would have been a great idea, such simple things that didn't occur to me. I've been thinking of making my images larger, since at the moment the image is hard on they eyes to look at, and zooming in seems to blur the image. Well, I have much to learn, but thank you so much for the reply!
Also, I've heard of Yume Nikki, but have yet to sit down and play it.
I like this! I wish there was more of it, more animation. For example, does the thing in the back of its head represent an eye or some sort of nipple? If it moved (blinked, bounced, etc.) it would be easier to interpret. And the black tentacles would look even more sinister if they writhed and whipped (with many frames) instead of twitching (with 2 frames).
But it'd be best without too much information either, because the same minimal and ambiguous qualities that make this thing hard to understand also strengthen its creepiness.
Have you played Yume Nikki? This character reminds me of that game's monsters, who are sometimes cute, sometimes horrific, and usually make no sense.
beautiful and minimalistic, great
