if there is a legitimate reason for the presence of a solid color background then we allow it, it is not an absolute. i see no reason why this sprite requires a background though, you have an outline darker than any theme here so the sprite won't be lost in any available theme, and it doesn't have any outer aa planting it firmly in a background. essentially i don't see how the former background contributed to the image in any way.
Judging from the preview, I'd say it was fine. I wonder why it wasn't approved?
