Haha....It seems like TinyPic is really screwed up, the same thing happened to Jalonso's palette. Try this instead: goto.glocalnet.net/axe/banding.png
As you all probably know already - i got my opinion about banding. As for the other critique - i keep that in mind. Thanks.
DawnBringer`s link makes no sense -_- a photo of a dog? what does it have to do with banding?
Perhaps the idea is not so bad... But, not to insult you, a pillow is a pillow. And geometry here can kill with it's nonsense.
A little hint:
if you want to make PA, you should force yourself to work REALLY long on it, not to post such raw things here...
The guy's shirt looks like a pillow more than a shirt.
The guy is way too small compared to the chair that it looks like a gnome.
I don't agree that all banding is ugly. Sometimes 4 squares together give characteristic rather than looking like a mistake. But linear banding is the ugliest thing ever. Compare the alternatives to see for yourself. Sorry.
Now let's hear how you explain that the pillow shading is not ugly as hell. On the shirt mostly, the worst offender is that raised cuff.
There is always exceptions (I said so below). However this much banding should never happen, imo.
Banding IS ugly...but the issues in that spelunky image is of the lowest order and I don't like it as an example. This might be clearer:i51.tinypic.com/b4j2w1.png
And you must learn never say 'never'.
>exceptions do exist
Got one exception right here (it`s a joke).
What`s wrong with pixels placed like that ?
Too pixeled? It supposed to be. Ugly? No such thing. At least i can`t see ugliness in banding. I believe i found on forum that it 'look not smooth nor sharp'.. actually i can say if line sharp or smooth whatever it has banding or not. What else? Why banding is wrong?
To prevent, losing the mood long before you finish, pixel on smaller canvases. BIg pixelart sucks (exceptions do exist).
You must learn to never 'band' in pixelart. Its bad form and looks terrible.
At last some 'picturebackupped' statement. (that what i longed for, since i started my little 'banding war'. Not that i intended to do so thou -_-). Alas, i still think that the leftmost part of pic is better than middle one (i`m not talking about rightmost part of it, since it`s not AA we talking about here, but banding). The pixels on the left piece seems (to me) to be well placed and all lined up, as they supposed to be. The pixels on the middle one, on the opposite, seems a bit misplaced and give me a feeling this part is got actually something wrong with it. Also i find it to hard to trace the outline with my eyes, when i look on the middle pic. Maybe that 'untrakingabling' is what the artist wanted to do in first place, but it still looks wrong for me.
Anyway i`d prefer not to flame about banding anymore here. Even thou i uploading some more banding pics.
@yrizoud: I`m not here to make any excuses to my piece (to every piece of that 'piece' as well). I just wondering what`s wrong with banding (not on that exact pixel).
