Before a recent update HolyMonkey Studio had a completely "skinnable" 3-stage platformer demo available for download designed to be a portfolio piece for pixel artists. I'd started working on my own graphics for the game until I discovered today that I had accidentally deleted my most recent graphics and effectively lost almost half of my work related to the project. This is why I'm putting the whole thing on hold for now and concentrate on other stuff.

I did manage to save a couple of mock-ups where all the lost stuff can still be seen and so I decided to submit them for all to see. The name of the game is Netherscape and takes place in a parallel universe where nightmares are born. You play as dream warrior who manifests his soul energy as weapons to slay the horrid beasties of mankinds subconcious.

Done in Photoshop CS3.

Great amount of detail here.

Well it doesn't actually have a name except for portfolio platformer. I don't know if it can be found anywhere and I'd rather not re-distribute it myself since it's essentially the property of HolyMonkey. Sorry.

As I wrote in the description there was a skinnable platformer in the website BEFORE a recent update. I don't know why HolyMonkey Studios decided to remove it. It's a bummer.

Wow. Lovely! The glow in the first frame is superbly done.

@Peach The color count varies depending on the tile, but it never exceeds 16. The background is 5 colors and the sprites 15 + transparency.

@dogmeat Yeah I'm a sucker for saturated greens. It's no excuse for the noisy trees and boulders in the back though. I intend to correct the background issue if I ever get back to this.

So your weapons light affect the look of your character ^^

bgs are way too oversaturated for the stuff in the foreground to stand out, if this was corrected, it would be awesome :)

 kewl, lovely bgs definitely interesting.
