I remember seeing this back in 2010. Glad I was able to find it again. Love the work.
i still don't know what motivates people to doing like this great work, i hope i can have such like that too.
The fact that an artist of your caliber feels unable to continue with the craft due to practical reasons speaks to how bogus this world is
How? 100+ hours, that's how.
Spend 100 hours on one thing and let's see what you can do.
unbelievable - this is so atmospheric! The color palette, the background, the detail. this is art with a capital A. I bow for the master
This piece is so awesome I had to join so I could favourite it.
Wow, #1 spot. Deserved, too
This has so much charm.
The lighting and colors are beautiful.
Very systematic WIP! You don't have ADD, that's for sure. I tend to bounce around randomly with a scene like this.
One thing I like about your inherent style, with pixels, is the way you make everything thick and full of body, kind of bulky. For instance, your vegetation here - very bottom right corner. No flat leaves, all rounded with nice reflections and whatnot. That's an interesting gimmick.
It must've felt great to upload this here and announce it complete.
It reminds me of Brian Jacques's redwall series, the ferrets where always pirates and badguys. except this is in space.
This picture makes the Mona Lisa look like a simple one color pixel standing on an island of other pixels that are all white.
Hey, you placed better than Fool. Good job man :P
This is still considered one of my all-time favorite pieces of pixel art, and I'm sure it'll stay that way for a while. You, sir, are amazing.
you are so crazyy amazing <3 I want to practice hard so i can get as good as you are :D
Dang! I swear I remember comenting on this :P You've heard this at least 70 times before me, but oh... xD Your pretty much amazing :P
Woah,,, I need to comment again, awesome real pixel art, without hybrids fakes or something, youre an example of the good way!
Amazing work !! Great environment & atmosphere !
This is fantastic, man. A lot of time and hard work, turned into something amazing. Fave for sure.
Dude...that is...just badass...I'm instantly favoriting this.
Ahh, thats a real beauty. Everything is great, but I agree with the rocks tho. Amazing work. Reminds me from Ratchet. 5/5!
@Opcaus
Oh, don't worry, I don't blame you. The "furry" stuff isn't up most people's alleys. It just happens to be the stuff I draw when I have nothing better in mind to draw. Still, if you're going to favorite one piece from my gallery, I'd rather it be this one :p
Heh, well for this piece I really only have praise (do agree with Hatch about the rocks.), this is just awesome. The colours, the rock textures, the atmosphere, it's just really great. I think I'm just not a big fan of wolves and human like wolves. I blame DeviantArt, and you're stuff's sometimes a bit too cartoony for me or something. But it's just a matter of opinion really. I do find you a great artist, though. (That probably still sounds rather vague, dunno how to word it properly.)
And thanks man. I gotta say this is probably my personal favorite from you.
Wow! Stunning. The pixelling is so smooth, and I adore the level of detail. The palette really sets the mood, and the OSL is done amazingly.
Kaiseto, you win at life.
@Opcaus
Well, that's some mixed praise right there if I ever saw any, but I'll surely take it :p I tend to like your style... (The Deep being a personal favorite)
I think the rocks being clustered at the horizon line make the sky look much nearer to him than it should and makes it look a bit like a painted backdrop, but it's a minor complaint and it may just be me. Incredibly beautiful work otherwise :)
I have to admit that your style usually does little for me, but this is just slick.
Okay, sorry I deleted my comment. I just don't like the ferret so much. His body bends sorta strange way and what's behind his legs I can't read, or it's the boots that make it. I suck at critism so don't mind me. I think the piece would look better without the ferret in it. :)
Can't stop looking at it... O_O
Oh, and congratulations on 99 faves! Well deserved. ^_^
@ Dusty
Probably because it was one of the first things I did, and I did it right after the sky, which is heavily dithered...
I've got one question, everything in this picture is smooth. Why'd you choose to dither the water, of all things?
Yesss! The water is -- almost -- as good as version 1 ;D and the other little touches are nice too.
@ Manupix
The smaller planet was there from the start. You might be right about the reflection. I'm of mixed feelings about it. Nevertheless, I think I'm done editing it. It has some problems (everything is going to), but all that really means is I have some thigns to kep in mind for my next big piece.
Well... one small edit. I'm going to see if I can merge the reflection with the same depth I had in the original version. I'd love to hear your comments when that goes up. Maybe you can still convince me to convert it back to its original format :p
About your edit and some comments:
I don't think the reflections on water are an improvement. They are pretty much unrealistic (the water would have to be unnaturaly still) and more importantly, the former version had much more depth and subtlety in that light on water, that was progressively apparent to the viewer and contrasted nicely with the fg planes. It was as if you saw some distant things through a kind of round hole, and it felt right. No longer so.
I wouldn't change the sword, so as not to distract the eye from the main highlight area.
The face highlights are an improvement.
Now that they've been brought to attention, I agree that the stomach and legs 'salad' are a bit confusing, although in no way disturbing.
Also, it's possible that the smaller planet is a distraction. Not sure.
This is pixel art. Thanks for showing us a piece like this.
Really nice work. Especially enjoyed the WIP gif. It's very refreshing to see so much detail in the foreground...It really puts the lake into perspective. Spectacular lighting too. This peice has it all.
@Cure
Check the WIP shots in the comment below. The hips are there. I think the clothes have the unfortunate quality of obscuring the correct form of the body, so people are assuming that he's supposed to be standing upright, on plantigrade legs.
@iLKke (had to look up how to capitalize that... again)
Those are entirely the legs. He doesn't stand plantigrade, he stands digitigrade. Here are some shots from the WIP. that's not "salady stuff", it's still part of the pants. You'll notice that around halfway in, I was all like "This pose is boring. I'm going to try to make it more dynamic!". That's where most of the problems came from.
You've got a good point about the browns. I did thebackground before they became part of the palette. I might update some things to include them, but I think I'm done editing it for now. I'll make a point of trying to get the whole palette decided before I finish a piece next time :p
wow...rubs eyes in disbelief...still there, I guess its real. Great job.
nice
