I considered sand - but wouldn't that imply that the Alhambra is situated in a desert (which it isn't)? Well, I guess I should see this as a re-imagining of the Alhambra, rather than as a more or less faithful depiction. Anyway, I also think that a blue sky would look better and maybe complement the sand well.

I think the yellow is supposed to be sand, of course. I agree with the clouds and building, but I dont see why the sky (?) is grey. It could be some beautiful blue or a redish desert sky. This piece reminds me from one of the avatars episodes. It a tv-programme that once came on tv... Anyway, you should make some adjustments.

I really like the upper two thirds - swirling clouds and the building. There is a slight dent in the roof of the cupola that I think could be smoothed out, and I'm not sure what the yellowish border at the bottom is supposed to depict.
