Haha epicness! Most cool people are nerds these days ;), I heard about that, would be an epic event. I'd love to do comic-con some year! Haven't seen the trailer but have seen stills, you know the shark is going to be some awesome bit of random, Matt Smith's episodes are nearly all brilliantly written!
Yeah, I'm a big fan of all Who. You oughta see my PS3's hard drive. It's got over 600 episodes of the main series, plus the spin offs plus various random bits (animations, Who themed episodes of quiz shows, charity things, the Peter Cushing movies) and also a lot of the audio stories. And yeah Smith is among my 3 favorites of all time, easily my fave of the modern era guys and I do love his series theme (the new brass bit at the beginning is a nice catchy build up). I'm gonna try get me a ticket to the Doctor Who Experience just so i can photograph myself in one of the TARDIS sets (they have three different ones, Davisons, Tennants and Smiths) with my Sonic Screwdriver. God that makes me sound like a nerd. Again I'm ok with that. Anyways the christmas special is on in a couple weeks. Trailer looks good. Still wondering what the heck is with the flying shark.
Yeah I noticed that, lovely collection you've got - I had a big negative preconception of what Doctor Who was all about for years, then last winter my brother got me to watch the "Blink" episode, a month later I'd seen all the modern seasons, it's pretty addictive. Loving the new theme music and Matt Smith's portrayal! Thanks for the sprite comments, I love working with bright colors!
Yeah when you view Bertie Bassett and the Kandyman side by side you can easily tell which ones which but if you're not that familiar with either one they can seem like the same thing as they're both based on the same brand of sweets. Anyways the Kandyman is from the 7th Doctor story The Happiness Patrol which is also notable for seeing the TARDIS having it's blue exterior covered in pink paint. Hm, I know rather too much about Doctor Who, both classic and modern series. I'm ok with that. Anyways this sprite looks appealing and I like the colors. You've got me tempted to actually sprite the Kandyman for my Doctor Who sprite collection.
My bad, but an interesting correction. Paying attention would have paid off - image searches for references, I assumed they were the same thing when I saw some photos of a guy in a big costume that was pretty dang similar entitled "kandyman", those must have been screens from Doctor Who. I've not seen too many of the older series (just some Tom Baker, then Eccleston onwards), but that sounds like a fun villain.
I'll keep the title, it's how I thought of him as I worked through this, and can remind me in future :P
Actually the mascot is called Bertie Bassett. The Kandyman was a villain in Doctor Who that resembled the character enough that the BBC assured Bassetts he would never appear again.
I pixelled the Doctor Who Kandy Man, hehe. He's in my gallery as part of my updated Doctor Who sprite set if you're interested
