Its actually much older than that. The name of the original game is actually the title of this: Adventure (Made in the 70s)
Also, this mockup is turning into a full game, expect it in a browser near you in the next few months, if everything goes according to plan :)
Is it supposed to be ZZT? I loved that game! I made so many custom worlds with it. I hit the custom object limit per map -- making all these complicated flags and tons of dialogue.
nothing like good old nostalgia :) I used to play this game all the tim when I was younger. It may not be as amazing as it could be, but I'd definately play it
I recognized it from the thumbnail!
While it's not the greatest of pixels it gets high marks for making me feel 8 years old again!
I like that your going for simplicity but the castle looks a bit odd. Maybe tone down the yellow a bit? hurts the eyes. was onek's guess right? if not I would have to guess tower of draguna.
I've tried skewin the floor tiles, I'm not sure if I'd call it better or worse, but its different anyway. I also redid all the shadows, some are still pretty nonsensical, but I prefer it to the way it was before.
Yellow brick road! Oh wait
I don't hate it, at all!
But the floor tiles should be either horizontal, or maybe 1:2, it doesn't say 'floor' at all the way they are. Also the shadows are wrong: if the turret shadows stop high on the wall, they can't also be cast on the ground!
Fixing these things would make it really good without losing the simplicity.
I considered making it more detailed when making it, but decided against it. I was hesitant to even draw the edge tiles for the castle, and the shadows. I think one of the reasons that game was so enjoyable to me was the simplicity and I tried to mimick that.
this is rly aint too good.... : /
anyway....reminds me of that gold town in secret of mana
Honestly, you're a great artist, but this is not great :(
You have a lot of room to work with to interpret the original and I don't think you've really pushed it enough. Everything is very conspicuously tiled; maybe you could mix it up a bit by having 2 or 3 different ground/wall tiles. Also, the lighting is quite confusing, why are there gradients on the sides of everything? As a whole, the image is very low contrast; nothing much stands out and everything just comes across as being a little on the bland side.
I'd really love to see this looking as awesome as HFKMPWAUTS2T:HSE++
It seems like you're trying to mix the crappy design of the old one with better pixeling. I think you ought to make the castle look a little more realistic
Haha, I recognized it without even looking at the name. Nice job! I love how it keeps the monochromatic feel even though it's got a lot of detail. Nice shading.
