You should make it much smaller to begin with. 300x300 is a lot of pixels, 9 times more than 100x100!
Even for an accomplished pixel artits it's a big challenge and a lot of time; for a beginner it's a superhuman task.
Best way to learn is to practice with very small pieces and try to place every pixel at best.

its one of those pieces that are best in one's mind. Not good enough to make it. More practice in pixelling i guess.
thanks, my pixelling skills are incredibly shabby. i am poor at picking a pallette too. I guess i'll have to practice more
This is half-finished, and the palette is not very appealing.
Ambitious piece, but it needs a lot of cleaning work.
The bird is too upright, looks like falling back.
A little bit of blending or antialiasing would go a long way on this piece, I think.
