Satsume, it's actually hard to understand how much health is still left in the boss. It is displayed by dots, which is, erm, not a thing that a regular gamer usually pays attention to.
But, I forget that such games ought to be played at 2x.

My0: i didn't think about "real" game play,but i don't see much difficulty to read,maybe 2x zoom is better for gaming,imho :P
Shonen: same,and for the contrast of the background,eh you have right,but i didn't want waste the background,sorry me if it's noisy ._. and thx for compliments to character,yesterday i even did some sketches (on papers) to study the armor =P
I agree that they're on the borderline, they're readable but not easily. IF you intended to play at resolution.
I think a bit more contrast between the background, and the foreground is needed. I have a hard time making out the individual sprites from the background at a glance.
The character itself is wonderful, very modern, and looks to be 7 heads high? A nice change from the more iconic graphics in most platformers which characters are depicted at 3 or 4.
I think the indicators (especially the boss health one) are too small for a real gameplay.
