Vlad61 and TypeVision:
Thanks guys. Glad you like it!
Fingerfoods:
I'm not sure too if I choosed well the colors, sometimes I look and think it is ok, sometimes I agree with you. About the floor's shading you are right..I do like that based on old beat n' ups like Final Fight 2, but didn't work so well. The black outline of the dude's face is there to fell more like a JRPG, with an anime touch.
Thanks for the comment and the tips, Fingerfoods! I will not work anymore on this piece but I will remind your tips on the next one!
There's a lot of good stuff here, but I have a few nitpicks.
Contrast: I actually think that the low-contrast look works for this piece, especially in that it really makes the sprites pop. However, together with the muted pallet, it's a bit too much. I think a different light source and some bold shadows would look really good here.
Gradients: Looks fine on the message window, but the floor has a rounded look due to the shading.
Mugshot: Love the subtle backlighting on the right side of the dude's face. My only complaints with him are that the black outline looks out of place in a lot of spots, and his hair looks jagged and unrefined.
Side note: That armchair looks comfy. I want to sit in it.
Thanks for the comment Sippy Cup!
I know what you mean, and to be honest I wasn't aware this perspective would be kind of odd until the art was almost done. Well, perhaps it is just nostalgia but I liked it how it is, reminds me of the classic Suikoden.
But don't get me wrong, I think you are right.
i like your peice, but the perspective is very odd, the bottom half of the picture looks heavy top down view, while the characters, door and wall all look heavy straight on view.
i really like the suttlety of the characters being lit more than the background elements but not too much that its obvious, very nice :)
Thanks for your advice! I will take this as a rule from now on.
I really was not aware that picking someone's colors are not so nice until Skamocore said that I should credit Fool in my first pixelart I posted here. I scratched my head and tried to saw what my work had to do with a badass pixel artist like Fool and so I remenbered I used his color pallete when I done it (I did it months ago, but posted today).
I edited the pixelart with the color palette and credited the artists I picked to make it. Do you think it is enough or I should delete it like I done with my first one?
Hi, I recommend you don´t pick up colors from other PJ artist, but as references I highly recomended to learn from the PJ artist... Let me explain: If you use colors from other authors you're not going to learn enough.
One example of the right way (this is only my point of view) what I do sometimes,
First I do my own palette and then work.
Second I see others (pixels and palettes), many, and go back to tweak the palette, and then work.
Third, if I am not happy at all, I analyze a color ramp of another author and I look, (in the case of dark tones but with brigh colors are the same method) what color is the dominant dark tone? violet?, dark blue?, gray?, never mind, take anything like this color, and with 10% filler, I play (I do click) 4 times the dark, 3 the clearest, 2 normal, 1 brightness. In this way I did the Majini Chainzaw palette, and I learned a lot and eventually added my own nuances, I learned from everyone. I don´t copy anyone, nobody has ownership of my palette, because it is new, and It´s a palette that goes beyond.
A copy will never exceed the original ^ ^ you can not polish someone in her own field.
PS- If you take a color, a design, technique, whatever, dont hesitate to show ALL the artist who help you in your way of the pixel, and you don´t be afraid to consult your intentions with the autors authors ( my example www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/59172.htm ) and don´t forgive this:
I´ve voted more than 10,000 pixels, (I know the styles-palettes-authors) but I'm not a veteran, so imagine the perception that the community has, veterans (Ptoing, Manupix, Skamocore,The B.O.B, etc) intuit the "stealing" (sorry) and the community will feel offended and do not respond favorably, so be honest, direct and you will receive advice and acceptance. remember; All of us are learning ^^
PSS: I'm not an administrator, so don´t take me too seriously XD
Thanks man, I'm glad someone with your skills like it!
I will try to pick the color palette and edit it.
I'm new in pixelart stuff and I don't have a fixed color pallete yet. I picked from other pixel artists, games and other illustration. By the way, when I should credit someone when picking a color? I mean, if I pick three colors from someone else (the blue on the jeans are from Orkimides) should I credit? Or to credit I have to pick the entire pallete? I'm very confused!
great curriculum of finished rpgs! I like the real ambientation, and you used restricted palette, and very readable, remember me PC games, great work but, you can edit this and put the number color palette, sorry; I´ts only curiosity. ^^
ff2 is a hard game wow. its verrrry broken tho, so. good luck w that!
