Lego! Great stuff. But you didn't use their palette... ;)
These are gorgeous - it is a crying shame that the person you made it for made rollover effects for the images that should really only changes the color of the text underneath the image when moused over, yet the entire image attached gets color reduced and attacked by dithering!
Thanks for the welcoming. I look forward to seeing more from you. This site is super cool. I look forward to trying one of the challenges etc. ..
I like the racer with the blueprint but the skeleton is great too; i don't know which one is my favorite.
Dear IIII, as a fellow PJ newbie myself I found the crowd over here sometimes very sceptic - some think low-color small canvas pixel art is the only real pixel art. There are however also a lot of pixel artists here at PJ that enjoy all kinds of pixel art and gave me a warm welcome, positive feedback and support.
So let me return the favor: I think your latest piece is wonderfull and there is nothing wrong with a bigger color palette: for me (and many others) the creativity comes first!
Welcome!
I can assure you all: this is the real thing. The fun with LEGO figures is that they are pretty easy to create / capture in pixels (no real difficult or strange shapes). As this was made for the LEGO fanbase I wanted to create it as good as possible, but there are definitly some flaws in the figures, showing it was hand crafted.
Just some examples:
- the flower base is not completely correctly shaped
- the lightsource / shadows that some figures cast are not consistent (e.g. the heads vs the bodies)
- perspective of some objects is off (e.g. the hard hat of the "my trains" fig).
Other evidence that this is pixeled manually: zoom in on the little details like the prints on the bodies - they are perfectly shaped and optimized for that extra crisp pixel look!
Furthermore: I feel strangly flattered that you think this is not real - feels like a mission accomplished in creating realistic LEGO figures
It looks like a reduced verison of a real or a 3d picture to me. For example the suit on the "raytraced" shows a strange difference in the shading...
If this is genuine pixel art, then fabulous job!! :)
If this is a fake, then shame on you!! :(
Awesome work man.
I love the hands. Always been a fan of the lego c-clamp hands!
@ Chibi Robo & EdJr: - Yep, there are a lot of colors, I know. This was a "commission" for my brother, who wanted very smooth and super crisp LEGO figures as part of his website's interface. That's why he wanted it pixeled and with no limitation on colors.
@ Ambient: - I used the real figures on my desk (as my brother did have them all - with exception of Frankenstein, which I made up). As you probably noticed I made variations of three poses, so some figures are more or less duplicates from the existing ones, changing colors and adding the specific details on top of them.
quite smooth and very realistic. Looks great in my opinion.
Did you use references (model, figure on your desk)? Because they seem a bit too realistic for drawing by memory.
132 colors :x
You could have probably cut down the colors by half but it still looks nice.
This is great.. So crisp! There has to be some connection within the love of legos and sprites. Always enjoyed them growing up. You've just reassured me that it's ok to use lots of colors.
I just submitted a big full color piece but it's been pending for awhile now since about 9 hours ago . I wonder why? I thought it was the color thing.
Ours, you have much talent… Nor necessary to explain the reason of the maximum note. Congratulations! Already he is in my favourites person or thing ^^
YESSSS legos
That is some really nice stuff there- you do sacrifice color unity for recognization, but it's more than a fair tradeoff imo.
love the lego figures.it has that authentic "plastic feel" on them. good job!
