I see what you mean with regard to the solid black outline, I'll take this on board for my next pixel.
I don't think it's bad at all. Besides being a bit plain I think you avoided a lot of beginner mistakes. I like the light on its face. The way the outline color changes from solid black to other colors depending on what's being outlined and where is also very good.
I would still suggest not using solid black though because it tends to flatten things and other dark colors can add so much more depth to a drawing. It also looks like there's a second very dark color used at the bottom of the outer outline, but my eyes can't tell the difference between that and the black unless I zoom in very close. Instead of black, try just using that dark color for the currently black parts of the outline.

It's cute and simple. Shadow is well done. Nothing much to say, but good job and that kind of thing.
