It works as front view (but not for top-down RPG style, but I think it was not your aim). I like the dog!

I think darker color on the guy's face could be darker - it is not noticeable until magnifyed to the full. Also nose could be (as I read it when first saw the picture) read as mouth and pixel of mouth as just spot. Maybe different colors would help to distinguish them
