This had been sitting on my WiP file for about a year, but I'm glad I dusted it off and finished it. Originally it was going to be the background for a science fiction platformer mockup, but uh, that didn't happen. Parts inspired by Fool and big brother.

Such a peaceful and desolate scene

user
Merez (Level 6 Hitman) @ 6/16/2012 07:57

what most strikes me in this pixel-art, is the colors, and of course the stones! very cool

user
zithes (Level 1 Rookie) @ 12/31/2011 04:13

 Beautiful piece <3

user
philippejugnet (Level 6 Hitman) @ 12/17/2011 11:44

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

user
Dr. Funk (Level 1 Thug) @ 7/21/2011 00:26

I think I've already told you this once or twice... BUT I EFFING LOVE THIS PIECE. You have my everlasting respect

user
Papermoon (Level 4 Button Man) @ 5/9/2011 17:07

aww.. that looks so romantic *-* great work...

user
Lackey (Level 4 Ensign) @ 4/26/2011 13:06

This is a nice, very formal, composition. It would work as a poster.

user
eyadan (Level 1 Rookie) @ 4/22/2011 18:26

wow! this is awesome!! congratulations!

user
KrypToniTe (Level 5 Soldier) @ 4/20/2011 11:22

I agree, reminds me from Borderlands`s pandora, but only with foliage! Awesome work, love the palette. The mountains could be fixed as cure ceddo said. But anyway congrats on the 1st place!

user
Delicious (Level 9 Boss) @ 4/19/2011 22:16

Beautiful job, congratulations on the #1!

user
luisniel (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 4/4/2011 16:50

Pandora without forests!? Haha! Nice piece.

user
James McCarter (Level 5 Lieutenant) @ 3/26/2011 05:34

Absolutely love the colour palette and the feel of this painting.  Nicely done.

user
cure (Level 11 Godfather) @ 3/21/2011 19:05

I agree with ceddo, and also feels the largest chunk of foliage feels a bit too solid. beautiful work, though

user
ceddo (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 3/20/2011 17:55

Wow. Everything about this is great! One thing broke the illusion of depth for me though: the way the bottom of the mountains goes in towards the sand area too much in my opinion. Awesome piece!

user
Perihelion (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 3/20/2011 13:55

Thanks! Yeah, I'm always trying to push myself harder and get better. This one was a major pain in the ass, but it was worth it. (By the way, I do intend to completely revamp the latest mockup I submitted, but I've gotta get some commissions done first. I said I was gonna and then didn't, but I haven't forgotten about it!)

user
TheInquisitor (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 3/20/2011 13:43

I should mention that this is a brilliant piece by you, Peri. You're progressing all the time!

user
Perihelion (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 3/20/2011 12:29

Yeah, you have a good point. They fit better when it was going to be a game mockup. I should probably redo them, but man, I'm too burned out on this piece to work on it more. Will keep that in mind for next time, though. Thanks for the compliment!

user
iMoose (Level 6 SWAT) @ 3/20/2011 09:47

This is incredible! The tree and the rocks definitely make me think of Fool. The whole background is, like Stickman said, stunning.

user
TheInquisitor (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 3/20/2011 08:26

That tree looks VERY familiar. :)

user
Stickman (Level 7 Sheriff) @ 3/20/2011 06:52

Brilliant! The only thing I would comments on is that it would be nice to have some gaps between the leaves.

The background planet is stunning.

user
KalasMannen (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/20/2011 06:03

Really nice soft colors. I like this one a lot!

user
Elk (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 3/20/2011 05:52

not bad :) its cool!

the clouds are a little too fixed and uhm...not airy xD

user
elend (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 3/20/2011 05:37

OMG wow, print on canvas asap. :D

user
Justincrdibl (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 3/19/2011 18:35

The colors. They're just so... beautiful...

Faved!

user
Perihelion (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 3/19/2011 16:00

I used MS Paint's circle tool. Then for some lighter layers inside, I made a narrower oval to create a crescent and filled it in. Then I took it into GraphicsGale and scribbled all over it. For the glow, I just duplicated the layer, erased most of the inner texture, put it under the original, did a palette swap, and moved it a bit.

Incidentally, the ground texture was done almost entirely with the filled oval tool. It was actually really easy once I figured out the trick!

user
Yuan (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/19/2011 15:43

OMG you guys are good ~__~

How in heavens did you make that giant curve so perfect?

user
SacreDoom (Level 2 Dealer) @ 3/19/2011 15:38

 ..Amazing.

user
Drazelic (Level 8 Partner) @ 3/19/2011 13:27

Awesome colors with the rocks and sand! Faved.

user
epix (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/19/2011 12:54

Yup, much better preview now.  Shows off those lovely rocks.

user
Lóng (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/19/2011 12:05

 Pixel-beauty at its finest.

user
Perihelion (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 3/19/2011 11:58

Good point, it was pretty limited. Is this better?

user
Kiwi (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 3/19/2011 11:45

This is SO awesome in some many ways! It's like a sci-fi locus amenus!

user
EdJr (Level 9 Nidan) @ 3/19/2011 08:46

I can see Fool's and bb's styles, nice likeness.
This piece is superb, man. I love everything except the sand (?) color.

user
Gecimen (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 3/19/2011 05:53

Everything's fine but I love the faded out mountains in the back.

user
epix (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/19/2011 03:57

This is beautiful.  I'm not sure the preview fully does it justice, since the tree is drawn in a slightly harsher, more contrasted style than the rest of the piece.

user
SatTheArtist (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/19/2011 02:08

freaking brilliant

user
OSM (Level 3 Hatchet Man) @ 3/19/2011 00:13

Gorgeous piece, great colors and a very interesting layout for the design.

user
TheoVision (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 3/18/2011 23:55

Great piece Perihelion! Instant fav, 6/6!

user
Sneep29 (Level 4 Deputy) @ 3/18/2011 20:41

I'm always loving your stuff. :]

user
PoisonousJoy (Level 4 Mercenary) @ 3/18/2011 19:49

Beautiful.

user
Hiuru (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 3/18/2011 19:20

This is so well done...good job.

user
jeremy (Level 11 Special Agent) @ 3/18/2011 18:57

Yeah the leaves have the most definition of anything in the piece. Nice Work

user
Perihelion (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 3/18/2011 18:41

I appreciate the feedback, but I'm pretty burned out on this piece, so I think I'm going to leave it as it is. I'll definitely keep that in mind in the future, though.

user
SpaceSalmon (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/18/2011 18:38

it seems the rocks are out of perspective. And the leaves seem not to fit in. Perhaps look better without them and have a dead tree? And this is a horizont view sorta so the clouds are wrong they should flow with in the other direction, sorry I can't explain so good. But it is a beautiful piece.

user
Perihelion (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 3/18/2011 18:14

Yeah, you got it. My usual MO when I have no idea how to do something and ref pics don't help is to ape a better artist. And thanks! This is definitely the best thing I've made to date, so I'm pretty pleased with myself.

user
Mathias (Level 5 Rokkyu) @ 3/18/2011 18:10

Just wow! The quality here is very unexpected.

Lemme guess - rocks - Fool. Backgroung - Big B.

Giving this full marks, which I rarely do.

user
Photocopier (Level 11 Godfather) @ 3/18/2011 17:56

This is extremely good.
