The black blocks are meant to show the outlines of the original sprites, which can be seen in the link in the original comment. Derp.

My only problem with this is Luigi's cap's nose (or whatever it's called). It looks as if his brows are on top of it. Wonderful job, though.

I really like this interpretation. It would be amazing to see HD pixel art versions of those games released now, they're a cherished part of my childhood.
