Thanks, all.
The reason the pirate turned out in this style is the way it was created. I started with a pencil sketch and then sat down in GraFX2 to recreate it. I used arne's 16 color palette (it is my default in the program) to set the basic shapes and decided that I don't want to add lots of colors for shading but instead get the most out of the ones I already have. I probably changed some colors during the process, but the pic itself sort of looked nice already and so I used minimal shading.
I thought it was Photoshopped, not pixeled. =) Nice addition to the demo. His hat bouncing by itself was the funniest detail.
;) red nose orange beard floppy disket lover ;) this is great for t-shirt!
had no idea whose this was, fresh style. some of the aa seems a bit of a stretch (mostly blues by warmer colors). very fun pirate though, love the flat color fields. nice minimalist sig too
@tanuki: Oh no, you've seen through him! He's not a real pirate, but just a poseur instead! :D
I like the flat shapes. Even with minimal shading you have a good sense of depth here. One issue I see is that the sword should probably be on the other side. I know it's easier for viewers to see his sword on the side that's toward us, but how is he suppose to draw it with a hook?
So funny!
