Hi, Pixeljoint, finally time for me to post something.

I'm about 1/3 through my project to post a small 30x30px pixel art piece each day. The page itself describes it best (I hope you don't mind a longer description):

Illustrapedia.com

"Illustrapedia is the culmination of my long time wish to create a nicely illustrated encyclopedia. Unfortunately I never get to it.

Inspired by Jessica Hische's Daily Drop Cap, I decided to do a countdown of 100 daily pixel art illustrations to get the ball rolling. If I manage to keep this promise to myself, I will be ready to start work on Illustrapedia on 101st day — June 14th 2011, the 1st birthday of my design company Retronator.

— Matej Jan"

The pieces are small, because I draw them all on the iPad in a program called Sprite Something. I then scale them 4 times in Gimp and add a paper noise texture to get the final look you can see on the page.

I use the Visibone 2 color pallete, but noise makes the number of colors go up so I don't count them really. The style itself, mixing scaled up pixels with anti-aliased paper and noise texture, puts it well out of the orthodox territory anyway.

The quality of the pieces vary wildly as I rush to keep on schedule. And constant switching from SS to mobile Safari deosn't help either. Also I'm learning as I go and I still have much to learn. That's what this is mainly for: to practice and work on my self-discipline (I never stick to anything otherwise).

Thanks for mentioning this book, epoxy, the new edition looks great! Close to what I want to do one day.

It reminds me of the cover David Macaulay's book "The Way Things Work," another illustrated reference.

Thanks for the kind comment. As I'm new this is much appreciated and I hope you excuse my mistake.

I didn't know you have that strict guidelines. I first posted a version without the background, but the gray is exactly the same as the one I use (in the lava lamp for example) and it blended in with the background.

Also as described, I add noise to get the look I have going for the webpage. It's gausian noise, so it makes the colors random in all directions, yeah.

I'll go back to the original drawings from iPad and reassemble the composition with clean pieces. I'll put a single color background and with all this the color count should be acceptable.

UPDATE: I now resubmited with the unprocessed pieces and chose a new set to go better with the transparent background. I also fitted the title into the 100x100 preview box, but it took some other letters to do it. Hope that's OK. It goes allong the project's idea at least, which is diversity.

This is a very cool project you have. Each individual letter here looks well made too.

The background is definitely not pixel art though, so that kind of disqualifies this unless you remove it. There's 1147 colors here, probably mostly from the background.

Actually it looks like there's a ton of very subtle color variation on the letters themselves. Even if you remove the background you may still need to clean up the letters too.
