This is a slightly re-designed mockup for a future game, now theres no mixed resolutions. It's at 2x which will probably be how the final game will be viewed.

@epoxy, the finished game would have a lot extra in the foreground similar to the detail of the ground. No detail in the ground actually looks a little worse in my opinion. The characters themselves are even 2-toned though though not as "rough" as the ground, so the ground looks to be more detailed.

The buildings are faintly-visible, but I like them that way; they don't distract from the foreground. In fact I almost think the ground could be less detailed. (I know 'less' is almost never good idea, but...) The rest of the scene looks good with flat colors & outlines while the ground is the only thing with internal shading.

Thanks guys, as for the buildings, maybe try adjusting your monitor? The are pretty defined on my screen, as well as my iPod Touch. :)
maybe make the buildings in the background darker? they look cool but are too hard to see
