yeah I designed the coalheater opened like that so it would flicker in action and also gushing out intense steam simultaneously from the upper pipe. But my lacking skill in drawing smoke make me cancel the intense steam animation. Tried to draw it for a week, and I sucked. While I should keep my sprite made according to the time frame... That's why this is still far from perfect.
Yeah apparently that's my weakness at the moment. I'm still having a tough time drawing smoke, fire and animating them properly. Tried looking on realistic fire-smoke references from Metal Slug but it gives me more headache... This is the best one I can give at the moment. since this Steam mech set consisst of many actions, I decided to stick with this current state for a while and proceed in completing the action sets first. But I promise I'll keep focusing on drawing-animating this fire-smoke stuff :)
Yeah the small hands animated on the other action. Do you think it's better with his hand do some other animation when it walks?
Ah I finally found what was bugging me: the smoke stays "stuck" on the pipes that emit it. It may be easier to make these pipes emit separate smoke sprites; this way they naturally lag behind when the character moves.
maybe you could also make the coalheater burn a little bit while it's doing an action. To show it's working hard to function, just like the smoke coming out ;)
Nontheless nice work!
If you wanted to tweak anything on this, putting a bit of animation into the small arms might be cool. This is a really fun piece to look at.
maybe it twitches too much, hurts my eyes when watchin for long time. Try making more frames or less motion. other than that well done
