The heart shape is the integral part of the character really. The pauldron definitely should be more defined as one. Also, the (our) right foot should be brought in a bit - in the ref the tibia part of the leg is pretty much vertical :)

 Personally I like the dark colours.

 Yea the background is a little too dark.

It's good, but seems a little bit too dark. Try lightening it up some so it's easier to see.
