Well I was gonna give more crits, but seems that is't needed anymore thanks to Cure.

In any case, do try to decrease the colour amount or chances are very slim it'll be allowed into the actual gallery.

more about banding

the pillowshading doesn't make sense because it ignores how light actually behaves. it ignores the light source and confroms to the 2d shapes in the image rather than the volumes. having an outline is fine, that's different than pillowshading. when your shading adheres to the outline and not to how your light source hits the object and defines its volumes, then its pillowshading.

this could easily be done in 16 colors. most of the colors used here are nearly identical, you can't tell them apart from each other in the piece. usin less colors woul also help you get better contrast in your palette.

other than the pillowshading on the green part, the head looks pretty good. the rest of the sprite ignores the lightsource.

Thanks for the advice!

Now with the comments, to be honest i had a little help with the head and the feet, thats why they look better then the rest of him.
the banding is something i did because i thought it looked better, i used more of the same colours because of that but you are right it looks to obious. how can i change that ?

now for the pillow shadding. because i wanted to use him for a game, i wanted to make a nice outline to because of that i made sure that mostly the outside of things have a little darker line to it. i didnt want to use black outlines or anything so i used this instead.

should i reduce the colours ? i kinda like the colours but i am not sure how i would make him with only 16 colours.

Alright, here's some critiques for ya.

The basics are all there, but there are some beginner's mistakes you need to watch out for. Most prominently: pillow shading and banding. Pillow shading is where all the shading is on the outside of the object and the highlights on the inside, which gives a rather weird look. This can easily be seen in the green part of his head. Something to avoid. Apart from some banding the upper part of the head is great! Best part of this guy.

It also has a lot of banding. This is where you kind of stack increasinly dark or light 1 pixel strokes on eachother and it kind of gets the idea of a gradient. You wanna avoid this too. This is visible on most parts of the frog. Mostly at the edges of the arms, the jacket and the legs.

You're using way too much colours. I'd say 16 is more than enough for this, and right now you've got a wopping 170! You really wanna re-use colours in pixel art.

Definitely good though for a first try. Keep it up!
