This is a very good first try at pixel art. I think it's a lot better than my first try. Keep in mind that the gallery here is only for finished works (or sometimes unfinished if they're finished enough and there's no intent to continue working). I'd say this looks good enough to call it finished though. If you'd like to post works in progress we have a forum section for that here and we'd be glad to help you with whatever advice you need.
Was this saved as a jpg at any point in time? According to this there's 256 colors here, but really there should only be about 14 or 15 based on your palette on the side. Pretty much all of these extra colors are extremely slight variations that are too subtle to see even after zooming in.
