If you find a great linkshell like I did it can be really fun. My LS, 'The Star Onions', are a super cool bunch of peeps. <3
There aren't really bugs, just lackluster elements, but hey're also making a bunch of radical changes to these things right now that'll shift how we play entirely. It looks like it'll be awhile before they make us pay. I enjoy playing and just hanging out chatting with the people in my LS; having them to talk to and work with is what makes it enjoyable for me at the moment. : )
We recently had an LS event: "The Naked Race", where we doffed all of our clothes and equipment (down to unequipables), set ourselves to level one jobs, and ran through the most dangerous and aggro filled areas for a couple hours to get to Ishgard. I'm proud to say that I was able to employ some of my fellow Onions as meat shields and only died at one point (several times to the same monster DX) that was relatively close to the endpoint. Soooooooo much fun!
yaaaaa..... I think I'll wait on that for a little while until they fix all the bugs. I've heard a fair amount of bad things about it so far. Once they fix it I might, but probably not since I don't like the idea of paying monthly to play a game; I don't ever play them enough online to justify the price. Plus I have 50 games I haven't touched lol.
FFXIV is free to play right now if you buy the game; you should try it out.
Thanks! I love FF games lol; I should look at some of the older games for inspiration :P
Pretty. It reminds me of the basilisk type monsters in FFXIV.
ahh, ok I'll keep that in mind :) thanks! I can try reducing them again in the next couple days :)
I like this elemental very much. Still, there are really too many colors in the palette, in my opinion. If you take GIMP editor, for example, and reduce this image to 8 colors with dithering it does not make too much difference (especially after some manual finishing touches). Maybe it's not a legal technique, but it often just very informative.
Thanks!
Ahh I see; I used photoshop for this and it's never been saved as a JPEG, but I did use colors at lower transparency trying to get a type of glow effect and to change the tones (mostly I think since I'm used to rendered paintings).
I'm not sure why the transparency would count as several colors, unless it's counting the colors that went outside my clipping mask?
Thank you for the critique! I will try to keep that in mind lol, I think I'll need to adjust my mind set when making these in the future XD lol
First off it does look cool (I mean hot) and it's a really nice design. It looks very much like liquid, which I'm not sure if that was really the goal, but it works well regardless.
There seems to be an issue with the colors on this one though. According to this there's 234 colors total, 43 of which are listed as transparent which suggests to me that whichever program you used to save this didn't handle the transparency properly. No matter how many pixels in an image are transparent, if there is transparency then that number there should only show 1 because transparency is counted as one color.
Was this saved as a jpg at any point, or did you use a pencil tool with less than 100% opacity when drawing it? I'm trying to figure out how you got so many colors, most of which are very slight variations that can only be seen when zoomed in close. If I reduce this image to 40 colors, including transparency, there's almost no difference. So that's about 200 colors that don't need to be here.
There's no set limit to how many colors can be used in pixel art, and there's nothing wrong with using very large palettes, but generally the goal is to use as many colors as needed without wasting any and to have control over your palette (which becomes increasingly harder as the number of colors rises).
lol, that sounds pretty funny. I like the name of the LS too. Nice reference to onion knights lol
