I'm leaning more towards ancient human depiction, if only because of the marble and the relief style that follows some of the canons of ancient mediterranean cultures.  It could be myths on top of myths; like, a section of wall from an Atlantian temple. OoO

just curious, is this supposed to be an ancient human depiction of this civilization, or is this something that fell down to earth from the sky?

anyway, I like the way you think in that this piece does not literally depict a city above the clouds, but tells a story.

oh, and I prefer to look at EVERYTHING at 2x
