Excellent ! This is why I love PixelJoint so much !
Thanks for the advice, actually now I know the fact, banding occurs in 80% of my pixel art..I will remember this, and use AA everytime it won't add new color on my palette. Also I'm not used to 'fatten' the outline like you did, but it actually looks good, definately good tip. The whole banding and 'grid revealing' part of the tutorial you linked was very instructive.
I don't edit this piece to let the commentary full of sense.
Thanks again !
Alright, fair enough. That edit definitely is a vast improvement of Darokin's piece, and also adds the suggestion of having more contrast between the whites/light greys. Nice.
Banding in this case results from the use of identical clusters side by side, one black and one white, most of them 1x2 px, and their repetition. It's not the double outlining in itself which is questionable.
Edit (on PJ default theme): changed outline, then added AA (using said PJ default theme grey) and made a few color changes including darkening one tone of grey. The 3 light greys are too close.
Not sure if that applies as banding, rather a technique used to contrast the the black further from the background. Looks totally fine to me, though more contrast in the whites could definitely help make this piece pop.
Keep it up.
