Your council is well adwised. You're right about the rendering on blurry CRT Monitors. A blue green ramp would also render better than this flashy green for sure. I think i'll no more modify this one but will take this advices to make my next gfx better looking again.
Thanks for the reply tip too =)

well at the moment, I have trouble figuring out where your light source is. so having a clearly defined light source is essential in avoiding 'pillow shading'. as far as the dithering goes, I'd remove it almost entirely (useful in the days of blurry CRT monitors maybe, much less so on modern computers). I'd definitely use less saturated greens, they're a little bright as it is (if possible, I dunno what your palette restrictions are). Using 'hue shifting' might also help (instead of all of the greens being greengreens, maybe make the lighter shades more of a yellow-green, and the shadows more of a blue-green).

also, hit 'reply' on my post for future responses. doing this sends me an alert that you've written back, otherwise I wouldn't know (luckily I check up on my recent comments because not everyone knows about the 'reply' button).

Thanks for your comment. I read this very well done tutorial few days ago. Well explained. It was the first time i read technics about pixel art so ... next gfx should have less 'pixelling errors'.

How would you suggest to pix the green parts of the Dragon ? Maybe a less flashy green palette (the problem is that the palette is not so wild, (and... that i have troubles to see too close shades of colour)).

pillow-shading is discussed in this tutorial. I think over-dithering is a problem as well (looks worse on the green than it does on the slate greyblue though).

Glad it pleased you =)
I didn't know the expression pilow-shading but i google it.
You 're right, i didn't take care of the light source, or a common one anyway.
I'm still experimenting this. I have lot of progress to do here too. In that moment, i prefered to do a local & not global good looking dithering, but...  Thanks for you comment.

I like the zany composition and bright colors, but some of the shapes look pillow-shaded (particularly the dragon), and that robs the image of depth.

Yes ! It's my first gfx my approval og Pixel joint =)

Colours here are chosen among 512 shades (STf).

Is there comments you could do about it to mention that could be better looking ?
