Thanks! I should definitely have accounted for aerial perspective, and probably have made the airships brighter. Too avoid adding more colours, I just recycled the dark browns, but I suppose those don't have to be that dark anyway.
I've been looking at different dithering techniques and though I feel like I need to work more on fundamentals before I give it a go, I wonder if it would help this piece, in terms of gradients. I was recently looking at this piece, which has a very interesting dithering technique. Might give it a try some day. www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/53379.htm
Nice!
what texture would it have from kilometers away? > Exactly.
Geometric, intricate, solid color patterns should work, as you did with the shadows but in highlights too. You have checked refs, of course: there are some gradients but the majority of zones are flat.
The lightest sand color should probably be the dominant tone.
Don't forget aerial perspective.
As in a previous piece of yours, the airships are too dark. Their tops are in full light, and they used to be shiny material!
Thanks. Couldn't figure out how to apply a texture without making the sand look too grainy. I mean, what texture would it have from kilometers away? I'll try to see if I can find other ways of doing the flags.
I also now noticed that the shadows from the buildings are inconsistent. F%&#
LOVE IT. Just wish more of that light yellow was used for sand texturing. I also think the flags are a bit weird and make the roof tips look like hooks. Other than that, the colors, style and scene are AMAZING
looks great, wouldn't change a thing
