a good way to think of contrast is that you basically have 2 part of shading: the light part, and the shadow part. Contrast within each part should be less than the contrast between the 2 parts. Or in other words, the shift in value between the light part and dark part should be greater than any subtle value shifts within the light and dark parts. This way you can immediatly tell whats in the shadow and what isnt, making the form read more easily.
I can only thank you. I adjusted the face and neck a little more. I preferred toleave only three visual, as i do not have a perfect sense of contrast. :)
thats alot better. The outline around the face looks a little bit banded, and the cheeks and neck could use a little bit of tweaking. On the one with white hair, I would use more contrast on the hair, and make the reflections on the glasses brighter. I wonder if the non-transparent background is keeping this from being accepted. The new face is definenetly an improvement though. You should work on fixing the other ones too.
http://i.imgur.com/lcR6P.png edited! Tell me what you think! (stole some colors :P)
No, it isnt that round, youre totally right. I like so much your edit but the eye and the forehead arent good i think, it got a surly look... I love the colors, i'll try to do something to make it better next week, thank you r1k, again!
I think the likeness can be better. For starters, is her face really that round? Check that you got the proportions correct. I did an edit:
Uh lala! Fave it.
