1) you'd be surprise most of us use only MSPaint for this. i shall remind you that everything is done by hand when it comes both to this site and to pixel art in general.
2) the whole thing about taking another approach at this is just for the sake of your own improvement as an artist,a nd the whole "criticism" thrown at you is only the feedback you should expect from people who wants to share their vision on your work so you can think outside of your own limits. thats the whole point of criticism after all.
This was basically a plan to show a little patriotism gone haywire. It was speeded and half-a**ed. I could have spent weeks trying to perfect it...BUT I wanted to finish it for 9/11 and I started a bit later than I should have, so I was kind of rushing to finish this.
1. I don't do "real" textures. I don't exactly have the best types of programs for that, so I make due with what I can.
2. I actually did have interest in making this and I spent several hours trying to set to as far as my standards go. It came to me as an Idea for something I thought I would do, but it sounded too funny to be respectful. I was originally going to make a big "9/11" text piece with the "11" being the towers, but I thought that would be a bit disrespectful and might offend some people. I decided I would go with another idea from those classic posters that show a bald eagle crying with the towers collapsing in the background.
3. I don't do a lot of shades with things like this. The eagle, clouds, and the towers were actually all done by brush. The background however may have undergone some shading processes because I was getting somewhat impatient. Also, the eagle, clouds and such underwent a few shading processes in terms of color to get the type of color I was looking for.
4. Forget it. I'm not redoing it, and if I do, I may not repost. Whenever I do stuff like this with MS paint, it comes out looking stupid and people have a million different criticisms to throw at it. Maybe I'll salvage it at some point for a better idea, but all in all, I've come to terms that this was a bad idea and I should probably avoid trying it again. Maybe I'll get a little more practice, and then I may end up using those skills to make something more suitable. However, it may take some time since my computer program is most likely gonna be upgraded with a new system I'm getting in a few days; that's probably gonna leave some stuff to adjust to considering how "dated" some of my programs are.
sorry to bother you again with this, but i don't really get what you mean by "I didn't mean as in an actual "cartoon" but more along the lines of the style." particulary what do you exactly mean by this "style" you mention.
i'm am more concern of the possible issue of you saying this as some sort of excuse for a lack of interest on actually working properly on a piece (wich in any case, disregard of what you want to communicate with your work, is a terrible thing to do).
i coudlk tell there were no clear stylistical or artistical choices working on that piece, therefore i cant really say you did took some liberties based on a personal choice(it was more of a regular shading process what affected the peice's value). without any intention to offend you, i seriusly consider you have a poor or a misinformed concept as to what the concept of "style" refers to.
rather than deleting and erasing it away, you should really consider reworking it again and take another approach at the subject.
I know you're trying to help but...I just don't plan on going further with this.
I appreciate your criticism but I'm just not gonna change it. I might delete it soon though since people are starting to get the wrong message. *COUGH* Metaru - Nitram *COUGH*
No, I never said anything like that. METARU said that.
The eagle is supposed to symbolize the sorrow of Americans everywhere on that day.
It certainly wasn't my idea and I didn't mean for anyone to take this as a joke.
I didn't mean as in an actual "cartoon" but more along the lines of the style. I'm no good at drawing things to make them look realistic, so I just use my own style. Even if people get the wrong message from this, it means nothing to me. I already know what I meant to say with this picture, and thats all I am concerned with. If other people want to be children about it, that's them.
I did this with respect, and if others take it more as a joke, then fine. To each his own.
there is a huge thing about this being cartoony, wichmakes it looks like one of those stickers you lay on your car's bumper. wich totally destroys any posible intention to take it "seriusly".
if anything, it could be read as if the eagle was the one who destroyed the buildings(conspiracy theories aside). wich i'm p sure it wasn't your idea.
I've never been interested in trying to make it look realistic. Making something in the style of a cartoon is my style. I thought the eagle's head looked kind of a like a chicken as well, but I decided there wasn't much I could do about it, and I was getting quite tired after working on this for so much longer than my other projects.
It may be small, but it took a while to get things as I wanted them. This is my final result, and in spite of its imperfections, I'm proud of this.
I think cure is right about the eagle skull. It looks very cartoony and unrealistic, even if the pixelling technique is good. To be quite honest, I thought it was a chicken and that the twin towers were two strips of bacon, as some sort of poor joke. The way you've painted fire on the towers doesn't look anything like the pictures I have seen of them. The smoke looks good, but it looks like it comes from a single fire and the fact that you've made it rather bright and high contrast makes it look like it's quite close, rather than far away.
now you should do one for every victim of the war on afganistan though.
Such a sad sad day.... The eagle looks more like a bird now and less like a plushie.
Alright, I've fixed it up a bit. I couldn't make the head shorter, so I expanded it to make it look shorter, and additionally more bird-like; I've also "sharpened" the feathers, I guess you could say.
the eagle has a very 'downy' look, soft and fluffy rather than composed of sleek feathers. skull shape is also a bit too human, bird skulls aren't very tall and have a much smaller cranium. also, mabe you could add silhouettes of a few buildings with the darker purples? just an idea.
Eitherway this project is dead and the chance of me reviving it is slim at best. I would explain more but...I have better things to post. Things I'm more interested in, which I plan on posting soon.
