Looking at it, I agree. Normally I wouldn't dither much at all, but seeing as I had a limited colour choice, it was my attempt at doing some blending.
You have to practice the dithering and use it only when needed. there is a lot of unnecessary dithering, i think.
Thanks to both of you... And yes, I rushed some bits. Guess I just got bored of it. hanks for the suggestions, hopefully the next challenge doesn;t have a colour restriction.
Edit with AA on the dinosaur using the palette colors, and quick try at some nicer dithering. Even the flashy green can be used.
Don't think of dithering as an easy way to blend colors, especially with a harsh palette like this: it usually does just the opposite! Try it as a way to texture and detail, with special care for each individual pixel. Also keep that stage for the very end, your art must have solid linework and shading before you even consider refining!
I don't think a lack of AA hurts this (I don't think AA should ever be "required").
I really like the concept of the piece! It just feels like maybe you rushed it a bit? Like maybe if you spent a bit more time you could have worked out some kinks.
I still like it :)
Yeah, I agree completely. Not too happy with this. As for the Anti-aliasing, I couldn't, really... My colour choice, of the colours given for the challenge were hard to work with, and I wasn't able to anti-alias well.
agree w/ manupix here, also not sure about the green at the bg
