good idea on the sword. might make it stouter, and see how that looks. the thing between his legs is the sword's scabbard, wasn't sure if i should keep it there or not.
Animation? sure. but it takes noobs forever :)

I like the shading on the hands and face and I like the colors overall.
I think the sword looks a little "long" maybe? The sword is so long and narrow compared to the chunky features of his body that you might just be better off giving him a spear. When he's holding a sword it could be a stouter sword, held upright.
Not sure what that thing is between his legs. A tabard? Hard to tell..
Also, the shape of his helm makes me think "space marine" more than "swordsman" - not that that's really awful or anything.
Any plans to animate?
IMO the cape looks odd flying like that. When it's still I think it would look best in the normal position. Especially when there's no atmosphere
The scabbard does not read like a scabbard. I'd either move it to the side, turn it into part of his tunic, or just get rid of it.
Also, is he supposed to be bare-chested, or is that a leather cuirass (my guess)?
