Looks like it has arms. Very details, love the foliage.
woah, dunno how I stumbled upon this but this is sick!! such a nice pallette, well done :')
Actually, that's a good question, since I kinda hate the faux-modesty thing myself. I guess I'm starting to forget how hard some stuff like foliage seems if you're not used to it. I think a lot of people steer clear of it for more interesting stuff like character/creature design, since rendering foliage can be pretty dry, to say the least. I'm not sure why I like doing it, but I do, and I get a lot of practice.
How can you be so modest?! I would've been surprised if it hadn't made the weekly showcase. Infact, I think this might make it to the top 10 this month. :)
Very well done.
I'm really surprised this made the weekly showcase. Wow.
@jalonso: Yeah, I definitely take a lot of inspiration from adarias and scruffs in terms of palette-handling and foliage. Both of those are things pixel-art can do in a unique way, and I don't see them done enough (so little that I think there's an opportunity there for indie projects to do stuff that really hasn't been done before).
I have this weird habit of looking at awesome pixel art and then forgetting to comment. Then I come back and there are tons of comments. This is great pixelling!
Again I am the master of killing comments. Dead.
I have a few critiques on this one. I've love to see it over a grass layer to confirm my suspicions! The pixel work is great, no question, so bravo there.
However, I think those two loose branches acutally look like arms of a Lord of the Rings Ent (living tree guy). They are very distracting and, in comparison to the rest, look rather poor. It's notoriously difficult to make RPG trees appear as if they are standing off the ground. I think those branches actually make the pespective look flatter.I think you should remove them completely.
Secondly, I think the area where the trunk blends into the leaves should be shifted down about 4 pixels so that the tree is given an arcing perspective. That should help make it fit the standard RPG 3/4 view. If you don't quite follow what I'm getting at, I'll make an example/explanation image for you.
I may be completely wrong in my thoughts, but when I look at this tree and try and think about it over a grass tile, I forsee problems!
Jalonso: I too thought it looked Adarias-y
beautiful, great colours. I would love to see an entire scene!
Beautiful.
By the preview I kinda expected this to be created by adarias.
The foliage is great. Is there a reason why the branches sticking out on the lower left and right side are almost symmetrical? I'm wondering if the piece wouldn't look even better without them.
Good colors, good contrast, good anatomy. Amazing! :)
(aka artisticdude)
I saw the preview and I was like "That looks an awful lot like Jetrel's style!" And then lo and behold. :)
I really envy your ability to pixel foliage. You make it look so effortless.
I have to agree that the green highlights are a bit out of place, but otherwise, wow. That's really good.
A few ,minor nitpicks, though:
the middle-right root looks a bit too long and the two branches at the lower end of the crown makes the tree look like it has hands, I'd suggest putting a leaf or two on each of them.
Gorgeous colours. Not sure about the green highlight on the trunk against the orange.
great use of color
