So cute and awesome! =D I love the detail.
My favourites are the turtle (because of the cutesy cartoony detail) and the moose (because of the iPod XD).
It's interesting that the turtle and the rabbit are both very cartoony, but the rest seem more realistic. Oh, and the fish certainly seems very Pokemon-like.
I think I know why Diogalesu thinks the rabbits need work. All of the other sprites have outlines that blend with the light source and general colors of the animal, whereas both rabbits have only black and a dark gray used in the entire outline. Until I zoomed in I thought the entire out line was black. Maybe if you used one of the rabbit's fill shades for the lighter parts of the out line (like you did with all of the other sprites) it would seem less jaggy and more uniform with the rest of you sprites. I also think both rabbits are very cartoony, where all the other animals seem based on more realistic references.
These are very cool and I love the educational application! My favorites are Extrinsic Emu and Motivational Strategy Fish. :D
@ Miumau0 nonono. These are all individual sprites compiled into one GIF. each sprite had it's own seperate (minimal, predefined) palette and were imported into an actual Pokemon GBA rom.
As for the shading on the bunny, I disagree . I only had 8 (9 if you include transparency) predefined colours and I wanted a shadow. Not much else that could be done, really. I was fitting these sprites to a specific theme and style to which I believe they filled neatly enough.
I guess i'll change the colour count to 9 since each of these use 9 colours in their own respective pallettes.
Most of my critiscism is on the second rabbit with the carrots, theres a lot of jagged outlines and the detailed shading doesn't really work for it, mostly in the torso area. It kind of gives the vibe that it's been a tad rushed.
72 colors is pretty much, because you have so many similar ones there. Example you could use same colors for shading and same browns with that emu and moose. :)
I really like how these were made to educate. Kudos on that, and the actual character designs and pixeling. The style to me is more dragon quest rather than pokemon though :p
" the rabbits could use a wee bit of work in my opinion."
Could you elaborate on what sort of work it might need? I consider this piece finished, but I am open to constructive criticism for next time.
Cheers for the compliments also.
I like the turtles the most.
but the rabbits could use a wee bit of work in my opinion.
Loving those back poses. (:
