The polearm is the exact same length for every frame.
I guessed so, but the point is, it looks like it isn't!
Speculars are reflexions of light sources. Shiny, metallic surfaces have moving and changing reflexions, with strong contrast between highlights and shadows. In this respect, despite the new color the blade still looks dull, not metal. You should look for references: both in pixel art (use the PJ search engine at the bottom of the page, not the one at the top!) and others including photography and videos.
Thanks for the advice, Groog, I will attempt that with my next submission.
@Manupix, I'm not *quite* sure what you mean by "recoil of the blade." The polearm is the exact same length for every frame. I agree that the color looks bad over the grass, and I changed it. By "specular" I'm assuming you mean I should try to make larger shapes with those colors, and not just simply give it an edge hightlight? I'm new at the weapons thing...
Good anim.
Needs more highlights! and some metal speculars, esp in the blade.
There is not enough recoil of the blade before the lunge (it looks like there is more recoil on the handle side); and the movement blur does not work with these colors (looks like a moving flag).
In GIMP, you'll probably have to add an alpha channel to be able to use transparency. In my version this is done via "layer" (main menu) => "transparency" => "add alpha channel". After doing that, you can use a tool of your choice to select the background and press "Del(ete)" on your keyboard to remove it.
Convincing animation!
