Sweet detailing, very nice. I agree though, the golem doesn't fit the look of the rest.
The golem definitely looks out of place, I spent the most time on it but it looks the worst. I might have picked too satuared colors since I intended it to be some kind of green gemstone/crystal golem, but I didn't know how to draw or render crystals so I just gave him a "regular" body though the idea stuck in my head. I tend to pick bad colors in general so maybe that doesn't have to do anything with it. =) But I think the bigger problem why it looks so out of place is the rendering with the obvious dithering compared to the other characters.
Thanks for the comments everyone.
I hadn't noticed the problem with the yellow highlights, but now that you mentioned it, yeah. Thanks for pointing it out.
The golem gave me quite some troubles. Since the other characters didn't have obvious dithering I tried to avoid it in the golem and instead used more colors, but it ended up just looking like very badly done cell shading with too many shades. Than I tried doing some dithering without reducing colors first but it looked wierd, though I guess if I had been able to, this would have been the ideal solution, but I couldn't make it work, so I ended up with this. But any tips regarding that will be appreciated.
I love the detail you put into this. As Gecimen said, it has a very dramatic pose, almost like they are ready to strike. The depth you used is great, very nice use of the dark colors and shadows. The golems color feels a bit out of place though, perhaps make him brown, like rock or clay?
I liked your first golem idea more, but this one is bigger, and thus, maybe better ;)
Also, good helmet choice.
I wish they'd do that challenge all the time...
The level of pixel details on the characters is amazing, it's very much like watching miniature figurines. My only critics would be that the yellow highlights of the mage and warrior feel a bit heavy-handed when seen up-close, and the golem seems weaker because of the grainy dithering.
Almost 2 years later... it was interesting to return to this piece with all the new knowledge I have now. It's still flawed, but WAY better than before. Thanks again for all the help.
