Hmm, I should probably just remove this piece as it seems to give people headaches. The thing is, I don't think that I'll be getting back to working on this game anytime soon. So it's not very likely that these shadows will be replaced. I posted the image to show some of the things I've been working on in the past but I understand that there are aspects that are unwanted on this site. Or maybe I should replace it with a mockup of what the game would look like if I was making it now..
It's just that those transparent gradient shadows are forbidden in Pixeljoint apart from being ugly. Please try to repost this after replacing them...
I was very very unexperienced, both in programming as well as creating pixel art. I experimented and tried out a lot of things, gameplay aspects but also graphic-related stuff. These shadows were only placeholders and would have been replaced with something better at some point. But I agree: they sure look aweful and I wouldn't use anything like this again in a game of this style.
Unfortunately there's not much to pass on, since I never really wrote anything down. No game-design, no concept, no whatsoever. That's the main reason why none of my projects ever got finished. Having some vague ideas simply isn't enough to make a cool lil' game. At least I learned from this serious mistake and will definitely spend a reasonable amount of time on writing down a game concept before I start working on something again. Thanks for your comment :)
Why you add this black->transparent gradient instead of normal shadows in pixel art style game?
I honestly like them, I also read the description and the game sounded really fun as well. Perhaps you could pass your idea's to somebody else. Nice one and keep up the good work, fella.
Yes, Non-pixel art (NPA) is unwanted in this site. I, too would not share the purist opinion but imagine what the site would turn into if they didn't take this path. All you got to do is take those gradient shadows out and put a solid ellipse in place.
