I love it! If you don't mind I'll steal you style :)
How could you possibly know it's not dead? And as you said some roots are NOT connected to anywhere, and even if they were inside the rock, the tree would still be dead, but thanks for the vote. :D
I will possibly actually finish this piece after the challange ends as TheInquisitor suggested.
I dislike the tree, 1- it's not dead, the rocks are. 2- the branches don't look like branches but like the trunk is exploded from within. 3- The right root doesn't go anywhere. But I still voted for this because the rest is awesome.
I agree with jalonso. In fact, once the competition has finished, I recommend having a further stab at this, completely removing the tree and redrawing it with some gnarled roots running over the rocks and even, if it works, some coming out of either the eyes or the mouth. That would be pretty cool. I'd recommend making that tree bigger and better too. Also the background can be given more just to make it look finished.
At the moment the orange doesn't really help it and transparency would be better.
I see so much potential in this piece, it would be great to see you take it further!
Imo, the reason the tree looks 'thrown as an afterthought" as mentioned is because the tree should be rooted better by having more dramatic roots grasping the rocks. Of course if the tree branches where drawn in such a way so that the skull face was created from the branches shadows instead og actual rock hole (or a combo of both making an illusion) this would be an OTT piece.
Well, I made them in different colours to show the distance, then one which is with the more red colour is supposed to be further from the one on the left.
Oh, and thanks! :D
(I hate to make double posts :P)
Strangely the weak part of this piece is the main subject matter! The cliffs and the skull are awesome, but the tree seems kind of thrown onas an afterthought. Did you run out of time or get rushed?
This is very good, but I don't think you actually finished - compare the bg mountains on left and right - left are shaded in, right are merely outlines. RUHT ROH
Beautiful colors.
Oh, you actually have a point there, I didn't notice that, thanks. :)
The branches are a bit thin and flimsy compared to the trunk ...but the hill is looking pretty cool :)
Awesome! :o Don't listen to people, they're just jelous.
