I feel like this place is almost identical to a place I visited in a vivid dream a few weeks ago.
could also work as a 64 color half bright on the amiga?!
love every detail on this pic, congrats!
I like the shading on the rocks... but the car and people... Not so much. They look kind of... I dono.
@manupix: Thanks for the c&c, very much appreciated and I need a lot of it.
I'm taking notes about the light source and casted shadow, I'll probably plan it before doing any colouring. How stupid of me! :P
Always had problem with the green/brown palettes (an issue I probably solved in this more recent piece - what do you think?) so thanks for pointing that out :)
The horizont is just a stylistic choice, thought it might be more dynamic (ironically the car which is moving is not dynamic at all!)
Thanks again! Love your always detailed criticism.
To everyone: thanks! I completed this piece just for the sake of completing it, didn't want it sitting on my hd anymore.
Regarding the overdithering issue, it's true. All this dithering is probably killing the piece. Dithering is also not my favourite technique at all, thus I learned a lot from doing this piece. I'm starting to think the large amount of colours is due to the need of smoothing out all this dithering surfaces, I'm sorry for that :(
I see dithering as more of a smooth transition between similar colors, but overdoing it makes it grainy and noisy. Take my avatar for example. The circle has a very smoothly dithered gradient that you can barely notice. Obviously, the bigger the piece, the more obvious dithering becomes, so you need to be more careful about it. I would suggest adding a few more colors (and it wouldn't hurt anything since you're already at 54 :P) for the sky if you want to do that effect correctly, and completely remove dithering on the car.
Everything else looks great
You finished it!
Really beautiful, but I have some strong reservations.
Mostly, dithering is really killing it. Could be ok on rocks and ground where you expect some grainy texture, but not the car (shiny = sharp highlights) nor the sky!
The shadow of the car on the road should expand to the right, given the sun position.
More difficult, there is not really a sense of movement in the car. Not sure how to improve that: maybe give the wheels a more aggressive angle and slant; have some gravel shoot away from the wheels, and why not blur the car in the direction of movement?
Love the colors, except the greens, too saturated. At least the leaves in shadow should be closer to either sea blue-grey or rock brown; the green and brown ramps need to blend somehow.
Last, why is the horizon slanted? I don't really mind, just wish I knew the reason ;)
Damn cool, the car looks like made of plasticine - interesting style - very unique!
Huge upgrade from the old pic, The rock, plants and sky are nice and smooth, looks great.
The only weird looking thing that I noticed is the headlight on the right side of the picture, It looks twice as large as the other headlight.
Looks like Jinn's art. =)
