This is fantastic! The colors and the animation are great! The only thing, to me, is that it kinda seems to be flying backwards.
I didn't notice enough before to comment on it, but the colors used here are brilliant.
:grumble: I wrote a response to this and must not have posted it.
This all-around is really great; good AA, smooth motion with non-linear slowdown at the nadir and apex.. The one clincher is that business about the wing's downward motion - on bugs, birds, and bats, they all move their wings down as far from the "fulcrum" as they move them up - barring maybe a small shift for air resistance, it's equal on both sides. I had to struggle with this myself on some flier creatures I've drawn for my games.
Pixeljoint offers in comparison to some other pages a high artistical niveau and I guess nobody gets upset about constructive criticism here. As it comes to me I like constructive criticism very much, it helps me to look at my work from different points of view and now I am thinking a foreshortening of the wings'd have added a lot =)
I guess you are completely right, I think it'll need more animations to get some of the more subtile things right =)
Thanks for your compliment.
Wow! That's really a beautiful work of art! I think your pixelling skills exceed mine, but I'd like to add a small piece of constructive criticism if you'll accept it;
The angle of the wing 'flap' seems a little high, when they come down I would imagine the wings going directly under the skull to keep it afloat. The way it's flapping now seems like it is trying to 'back away' from something.
I want to be clear and say that the quality of the pixeling is not what I'm criticising, but the actual "physical" angle of the wings.
Nonetheless it's a great piece and the line-art of the wings especially capture my attention. 5/5
Makes me want to stay indoors at night.
Top notch stuff. I think it would look a lot more menacing if the jaw swung open wider (it should rotate as it opens, not just move straight down like it does here).
somebody posted a video of flying bats in the wip thread, I looked at this carefully and translated it to the skull.
This is so Castlevania! And i love Castlevania!
Congratulations, great art!
amazing work, lovly animation, colors and texture. reminds me of those flying skulls in zelda ocarina of time ^^
Verry nice :D I remember seeing this in WIP (I think?) you've really ended on a great result!
holy crap that's so smooth, makes me feel bad about the animation i'm working on right now lol
Dem wings are soo sexxyyy...so seeexxyyy!
Wonderful motion as well-- did you happen to use any video reference or is it all straight-ahead?
I remember seeing this in the forums!
Fantastic wings :O
I agree, nicely rendered. I also like the color choice. It just don't looks like a flying bat, more like it would attack. Or maybe it's supposed to attack?
And a nitpick: The light brown almost has the same brightness as the default PJ background, so it's hard to see this color at the rear wing. Maybe an own background would be better.
Nicely rendered. I don't understand the animation, is it attacking or flying backwards?
glad to see this complete. Turned out really smooth,
smooth, I like how it looks like he is not only flying but putting out a fire or summoning minions or something :D
and love how effectively you've synchronized the shadow
