Aah, I see, thanks for clearing that up, better now?
I mean that you imagine some lightsource in 3d space and shadows it makes (for example sun outside, lamp indoor) that way - left side (or right ;) of the creature will be generally darker - besides of local shading.
All elements of your picture looks and are shaded separately (by not existing top down light sources). I know that probably comes from your reference, but it (ref.) looks more like an emblem, a sign, so there is no 3d shading on it.
global in oposite of local and ambient light, reflections etc.
greetings
Jok: Yes, the white cloud is part of the creature. I used multiple refrences, but this one is for the main pose: pldh.net/media/dreamworld/244.png
Can you explain "global shading?"
Frost Butt: Alright, I used the contrast in the official pokemon sprites as refrence, I think I have it down.
I also noticed how awefully untextered the cloud/mane thing looked, and added some dithering for a "cloudy" look. I also changed a few minor things, along with using the fur's "outline" color as another shade, not sure how much I like it though.
I can't really tell a difference. You need to start getting BOLD with your edits :)
still way too little contrast too
its nice
and this white cloud(?) is part of creature? If yes - then maybe you should separate it somehow - if not- its too similar anyway
there are some random pixels and lines but overall looks good for me :)
maybe little too flat - some global shading should help
(some references or from "air"?)
Frost Butt: I think I fixed the slight pillow shading by moving the lighting upward. Made thicker legs and added a lot more sel-out (because I completely agree with you), better?
This is pretty cool, although for me the toes stand out a bit because of the blackoutlines.
it's pretty good. It could look a little cleaner and the anatomy could be more stylish. thicker legs and mane, bigger feet, less cute cloud (lol). Also your shapes can definitely be better defined with more better sculpted shading and more contrast in the shading. For example in the crimson mouth, the two colors aren't distinguishable. Maybe change the light source so you can easily avoid the pillow shading in the legs and mane. So the whole thing is a bit flat. A lot of people advise agaist sel-out (selective outlining), but I think it works great with pokémon because it adds to the japanese sprite feel. mmii.info/_ign/50095.gif
Woo, thanks!
