1010 is a Hullpatcher, working in The System’s Filepaths, repairing walkways, walls and ceilings.
As an *.ico (child), he got scared by the older Files’ stories about hidden icons outside The System which legend say can sometimes be seen through the holes in the hull.
1010’s hatred for his job has made him effective and fast, and one of the most effective Hullpatchers in The System.
Hullpatchers work in groups, and should a hole in the ceiling appear, they have the ability to request a change in their Snap-to function from their supervisor. That gives them the ability to walk on walls and ceilings.
1010 searches for the truth behind the legend of The Hidden.
The tools are only symbolic, and Icons have the power to shape their own design. The more they enjoy the design, the better they work. Some may weld, others paint the holes shut. But what really happens is a transfer of bytes from the Icon’s storage-cluster to the hull. Hullpatchers can carry more data than most icons, but the consequence is a heavier encumbrance and a slower walking pace.
Hullpatchers work together with Explorers, which are faster Icons, to run ahead to scan for holes. |
