(2011 08 04 - 10 14) Water
Multicolored bitmap, middle grey as background.
This one was made for the Silesia 5 competition http://noname.c64.org/csdb/event/?id=1689, where it got 2nd place.
From the previous tries of alternating hatching, dithering and so forth, I had a rather simple way of dealing with the detail in this, all set to the same focal point more or less. The fishes were left less dithered. Most pixel artists use the cross-hatching as a resource for transcending two hues or brightnesses in a smooth surface, well at least as smooth as the resolution would give (may it be ordered or any distribution of math whatsoever).
I found out that in most of the times, this just looked as "molded rasterbars", instead it should also be given the property of materiality, whatever it might be: smooth, grainy, ordered, textile. I think it was rather successful.

It's my favorite too. Great piece.
