Impressive piece.
Personally I think the wavy part detracts from the effect, though; it doesn't make me think of speed - more like a static TV screen, like the hyperspace has been interrupted.
I'd like to see the initial, vertical animation expanded, sped up, etc.
I've actually gotten ideas of that before (moving lines to immitate the old SNES wave effect). I never bothered to try it, but damn, do you do a good sample of it. Awesome.
Yep. It's just a 64x64 repeating tile i made. I took the tile and scrolled it frame-by-frame with the colors changed slightly each frame, then shifted each horizontal line left/right in a sine wave pattern. It's essentially the same method I used to animate the wiggly tiles in my 9-bit Lava Level piece (http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/41481.htm), only much more exaggerated. Then i did the stars and scrolled them frame-by-frame as well. pasted the star frames in front of the wavy frames (and a few at the end so it looped correctly) and added the fade in/out. Then i finally added the ship in there.
That's not what I'm talking about. Are you telling me you did that swirly thing by hand?
It's pixel art, alright. The GIF uses so many colors because of all the frames (meant to show the scrolling).
Oh Fragmare, so awesome. Love that lined background.
For animated GIFs? An older version of Adobe Image Ready, usually.
I'll be honest, it's 2022 already, half of the year, but I found the design by chance, and let me tell you that while I was watching it, I was listening to Self Control, and listening to that song, while I was watching the animation, it's hypnotizing, and mystical.
