The llama's expression is priceless, you did a great job. The palette is very nice too!
Yeah, I was going to comment on that but then I took another look and thought- it kinda works this way!
You might try just shifting the pixels in the shaded areas one step darker- I think that would work.

I saw some sprites around here that did stuff like this, so I had to try it. Hopefully next time it doesn't take me quite as long. This was a pretty slow process.
He's also a little flat, I think. I lost a lot of form when I tried to fancy up the texture. So that's something to work on.
